URGENT CALL TO ACTION!! SIGN THE BUDGET NOW!
Your help is needed, let your elected politicians know how you feel about cuts, taxes and late budgets which negatively impact children, working families and private centers!

Dear Colleagues,

As was expected, the state’s budget has not been signed on time and continues to languish.  The battle lines between Democrats and Republicans have never been wider with a promise by both that a budget will not be signed for some time.  Additionally, the Democrats are now boldly stating an increase in taxes plus cuts are the only solution they will accept.  The Republican mantra has continuously sounded “no new taxes”.

Much of the budget will be decided by the Big "5" - the Governor and the Republican & Democratic leaders of the state Senate & Assembly. PACE's budget advocacy efforts focus on them - Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senate Minority Leader Dave Cogdill, Senate President pro tempore Don Perata, Assembly Minority Leader Michael Villines, and Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.

PACE is once again taking the leadership role and asking you to send to the “Big 5” letters of opposition to any childcare cuts and to spare us any prolonged absence of subsidy dollars during the budget squabble.  Letters are already prepared and are on the PACE website ready for downloading.  PACE plans to inundate the “Big 5” with letters at least 5 times this summer so that our message is heard loud and strong.  Our sister associations (CCDAA, CAEYC and CDPI) are joining us in this effort.

Please go to www.pacenet.org and click on “Act Now” and you will have access to letters of opposition for your parents, staff, vendors and more.  A strong, organized grass roots effort will help the “Big 5” in making the appropriate and timely decision for subsidized childcare funding.

As always, thank you for your support and immediate response during these times of political urgency.

Sincerely,
Pat Wilka
President
